We're beyond devastated to share the terrible news that Marlene Marder, guitarist of the influential punk groups Kleenex and LiLiPUT, passed away. Getting the honor of working with her meant the world to us and we will miss her like crazy.

Young People's short, minimal, brutally beautiful songs drew their inspiration from ancient hymnals and confessionals and blues numbers, taken with a strong dose of Broadway. The L.A. trio played stark and aloof and downright frightening music: by equal measure inspiring, comforting, chilling.

Originally released in 2002 on Kill Rock Stars subsidiary 5 Rue Christine, Young People's self-titled will be available on cassette for the first time ever on June 10th. Click here to order your copy!

Portland based DIY heroes Quasi are hitting the road in June for their first East Coast shows in three years! After 2+ decades of launching drums, guitars and pianos through the shifting interzones between harmony and chaos (moonlighting along the way with the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag, Elliott Smith, Built to Spill and a long list of others), Quasi are a genre of their own - they write songs in the style of Quasi, and their 2013 album Mole City is the Quasi Song Book: Parlor Sing-alongs for the Last Century.

Now in their 23rd year as a band, and a two-piece once again, Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss hand-deliver the double album/Liberation Cookbook/Encyclopedia of Kicking Ass, Mole City, to those of us who still care about well-built homemade objects crafted with integrity, spirit, fire, and skill. In other words, those of us who don’t fit into a world where the empty noise of crass capitalism, slick branding, and high profile hot pants have drowned out nearly all other concerns. Mole City, their ninth album, is a set of anthems for the refuseniks, Molotov tossers, pacifist soldiers and bug-eyed freaks, and Quasi is the band playing as the Titanic of what was once Independent Music goes down.

Quasi would actually fit in just fine if every other band had such technical control and ability that they could express each passing thought and literally converse through their instruments, could write meaningful, memorable songs, could sing with heart and humanity, could maintain a musical relationship for nearly a quarter century, could disregard the consumer-tested research and American Idolatry, and was brave enough to trip back their production budget and advance to zero, ditch the engineers, producers and side players, and head underground into their basement alone to record and mix over an hour of new music from scratch.

Quasi tour dates
06/24 Philadelphia, PA @ Johnny Brenda’s tickets
06/25 Brooklyn, NY @ Rough Trade NYC tickets
06/26 Jersey City, NJ @ Monty Hall tickets
06/27 Washington, DC @ Rock and Roll Hotel tickets

Praise For Quasi:

"Coomes has his own way of sculpting a quirky pop song that makes one ask themselves if they've ever seen Michael Stipe and Jeff Mangum in the same room at the same time, pulling Athens, Georgia's mainstream and cultstream songwriting gods into the dreary Northwestern drizzle dregs."Daytrotter

"It’s an old trick: happy music, sad words. But Quasi has elevated the strategy to an art form, and it’s nearly impossible to resist the sugar rush of the band’s sound in collision with Coomes’ black musings" -- Dusted Magazine

"Quasi career emotively between Hammond wig-outs, naked piano chords and subversive guitar pop ditties, buoyed by the vicious drumming of Weiss" -- NME

"Weiss is a remarkable, unpredictable drummer, and the pair play perfectly together, having reached the point at which improvisation becomes the result of an intuitive locking of creative minds." -- Pitchfork

"Quasi's songs teeter between optimism and despair, fantastical journeys and harsh realism; this is a pop band for people who like their pop throttled" -- NPR

Portland rock band Summer Cannibals will release their 3rd full-length LP, Full Of It, out May 27 on the legendary independent label Kill Rock Stars. Led by guitarist/vocalist Jessica Boudreaux and aided by a new powerhouse rhythm section of drummer Devon Shirley, bassist Jenny Logan and guitarist Marc Swart, the eleven songs spark with that perfect mix of snotty attitude, unbounded energy, and window rattling volume. The band will bring this energy to stages across North America as they join The Thermals on a national tour followed by a stint of headlining dates in June. Tickets are currently on sale HERE.

The four musicians keep their collective foot on the gas pedal, roaring through tunes like the previously shared jagged, wailing opening track “Go Home” and the powerfully melodic “Say My Name.” Energetic album title track “Full Of It” is an immediate earworm of distorted guitar, growling bass and irresistible vocal licks. Watch as the band tears through the track and a punk rock house in the “Full Of It” video released today by Stereogum.

The new album Full Of It is the band’s defining statement to date. Recorded at the amazing analog recording studio The Dock with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Wild Flag), the LP is one of those massive leaps forward that has defined the Summer Cannibals sound. Kill Rock Stars is excited to announce the latest addition to their roster: Portland’s own Summer Cannibals. The brilliant rock band is set to release their third full length album Full of It on May 2016.

Led by guitarist/vocalist Jessica Boudreaux, the Cannibals initially cut their teeth on the local circuit, sharing the stage and receiving encouragement from peers such as The Thermals. Along the way, they released a pair of fantastic fulllengths 2013’s No Makeup and 2015’s Show Us Your Mind — on their own label, New Moss Records. Show Us Your Mind was recorded by legendary NW engineer Larry Crane and was recently named one of the best of 2015 by Sound Opinions co-host Jim DeRogatis. The band has since spent an unhealthy amount of time on the road, earning accolades and adding plenty of fresh converts to their highly charged, no frills attack.

It seems only logical that when the band decided to sign to a label, they chose a label like Kill Rock Stars, which has a long history of putting out fearless, female fronted bands like Bikini Kill and SleaterKinney. “Summer Cannibals take us back to our roots,” says KRS President Portia Sabin. “Jessica is a great songwriter and the band is super exciting live, it’s a perfect fit.”

The new album Full Of It is the band’s defining statement to date. Recorded at the amazing analog recording studio The Dock with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Wild Flag), the LP is one of those massive leaps forward that every band hopes to achieve at least once in their career. Aided by a new powerhouse rhythm section of drummer Devon Shirley and bassist Jenny Logan and guitarist Marc Swart, the 11 songs spark with that perfect mix of snotty attitude, unbounded energy, and window rattling volume.

For their part, the four musicians keep their collective foot on the gas pedal, roaring through tunes like the jagged, screaming title track and the shouting, fist pumping drive of “Just A Little Bit.” But they’re savvy and talented enough to ease up when it counts. Just listen for those sweet melodies carrying “Say My Name” along or the pair of simmering tunes that close out the album: “Fall In” and “Simple Life.” The whole thing is done and dusted in about 35 minutes. Just enough time to catch your breath and drop the needle on side A again. Click here to pre-order Full of It
