Wimps to release 'Suitcase' on November 13th!

October 05, 2015

We are excited to finally be releasing Suitcase, the sophomore album from Wimps, on November 13th, 2015 on LP, CS, CD, and MP3! Listen to a stream of album tracks "Suitcase" and "Take It As It Comes"...

Seattle's punk rock slackers-in-chief Wimps are a Seattle-based three-piece comprised of scene veterans Rachel Ratner (Butts) on guitar and lead vocals, Matt Nyce (Meth Teeth) on bass and backing vocals, and Dave Ramm (The Intelligence) on drums. Wimps serve their own brand of rapid-fire punk with a smattering of lo-fi post punk guitar work to create an angular, slightly off-kilter blast. Ratner lyrically twists otherwise common day-to-day woes into relatable tales of struggle shout-sung call and response stabs that champion boredom, laziness and social anxieties with wiry riffs and punchy bass lines, propelled by the measured rhythms of drummer David Ramm.

Wimps tour dates
11/13 Seattle, WA @ Funhouse w/ Stickers
11/14 Portland, OR @ The Know
12/11 Seattle, WA @ Funhouse
12/12 Portland, OR @ The Spare Room w/ Kinski, Deep Fried Boogie Band

Wimps have come up with a ton of INSANE pre-order ideas for this album including a knit beanie starring their soon-to-be-iconic skateboarding hotdog and an iron transfer so that you can make your own Wimps t-shirt at home! Click here for more info!

Wimps fans should also check out the band’s still-new Super Me EP, which is available on cassette and good ol’ MP3.

We are SUPER DUPER EXCITED to announce the two newest comedy releases on Kill Rock Stars: the debut albums by Ian Karmel and Emily Heller!

IAN KARMEL is a Portland comedian whose unique perspective landed him the “Funniest Person in Portland” crown. His debut album '9.2 On Pitchfork’, recorded live before a hometown crowd, finds Ian waxing poetic about reviving Pimp My Ride, his differences with Harry Styles, being Jewish (but atheist) and other hilarious anecdotes. Ian made his late night debut on CONAN, appeared regularly on Chelsea Lately, plus TV credits including IFC’s Portlandia and the Travel Channel’s Best Sandwich in America, as well as a post-game analyst and commentator for the Portland Trailblazers. He currently lives in LA where he is a writer for CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden.

EMILY HELLER recorded her debut album ‘Good For Her’ before a packed house at Union Hall in Brooklyn, taking the crowd on a ride through her awkward teenage years in San Francisco, misadventures in housesitting, being single, her love of hip-hop and more. Emily was named Comic to Watch by both Variety and Comedy Central and featured in Marie Claire’s “Funniest Women of 2015.” She has performed on CONAN and appeared on @midnight, is the creator and star of the Above Average series "The Future," co-hosts the podcast “Baby Geniuses” and is currently a series regular on the TBS comedy Ground Floor.

We are sad to announce that beloved DIY art-punk band Erase Errata are playing their final two shows in October. Erase Errata have been one of the most exciting bands of the past 20 years and we are beyond honored to have been able to release their album, Nightlife, and their “Damaged” / “Ouija Boarding” 7”.

Here’s a message from Erase Errata singer/guitarist Jenny Hoyston about the final two shows:
It's with mixed emotions that I announce that Ellie, Bianca, and I have decided to call it quits on this project after 16 mind blowing years. The final Erase Errata shows will be in Austin and Houston, Texas on October 16 and 17, 2015. I want to thank Ellie, Bianca, and Sara for changing my life forever, and to thank everyone who came to our shows and bought records, all of our support team (Scott Comeau, Maya Pedersen, Lindsay B. and many others), our auxiliary guest players Christina Files, Weasel Walter, Kim Gordon, Archie McKay, Jaél Navas García, Collin Dupuis, Eric Bauer, and others, plus Troubleman Unlimited, Kill Rock Stars, Dim Mak, WEA, Mute/Blast First, Sonic Youth, Le Tigre, Melt Banana, Aislers Set, Damo Suzuki, The Fall, Pansy Division, Bratmobile, The Gossip, Luke Tweedy, Norm Druce, all of the promoters world-wide who put on shows for us and YOU. So grateful. Thank you. Who knew an awkward little butch from Freeport, Texas would end up performing in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe in addition to North America? Not me! What a ride. So grateful. ❤‼

Kinski are thrilled to share the second single from their upcoming album 7 (or 8), their latest LP due out on Kill Rock Stars this June 2nd. Where first single “Flight Risk” was a blistering homage to 1969 Detroit, “Bulletin…” marries the riff-centric mentality of latter-era Kinski with the more spacious compositions they’re known for, resulting in 12 minutes of guitar and string-crescendo perfection, and serving as one of the highlights of 7 (or 8). The band has also recently announced a string of Northwest tour dates (see below) and will be hitting the rest of the nation and Europe later this summer. Stay tuned for more!

For a band whose extensive discography has historically been primarily instrumental and prone to modifying adjectives like “post-“ and “space-“, the last couple of years have been a left turn down a twisted alley of fuzz pedals, blown tube amps, and a kind of raw power befitting of the Stooges. 7 (or 8) finds Kinski sounding heavier, faster, and even more self-assured, picking up where Cosy Moments left off but also pushing their sound into even more singular territory. 7 (or 8), the title itself a wry observation echoing the confusion created by their extensive catalog, is in fact their SEVENTH (or eighth depending who you ask) LP and second for new label home Kill Rock Stars, having previously released several LPs on Sub Pop and other discerning independent labels. Recorded and mixed in San Francisco at El Studio with Phil Manley (of Trans Am), 7 (or 8) comes in the midst of a more prolific period for the band. “It always takes us awhile to write a record but this one came quickly. We’ve stopped worrying about it so much and just get on with it, which is easier on the soul,” says guitarist/singer Chris Martin. This mindset, alongside their newfound lyricism, has revealed a band that is slyly self-aware, hinted at through years of tongue-in-cheek song titles but now fully evident. The quicker pace has also instilled a palpable confidence and energy on record. That being said,7 (or 8) hits like a ton of bricks. The double helping of riffs in the form of “Detroit Trickle Down” and “Flight Risk” leave the listener nearly out of breath. Martin, Lucy Atkinson (Bass), Matthew Reid-Schwartz (Guitar), and Barrett Wilke (Drums) stretch out a bit over the course of the record, marrying their more expansive sound with proto-punk fury, but they rarely let up until the last song, album highlight “Bulletin of the International String Figure Association”. One of the last songs written for the record, “Bulletin…” eases into a nearly 12 minute crescendo of rock bliss, gently flirts with a string section at the same time, and then floats back down to Earth in a perfect denouement. Like John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands on the cover, Kinski strive to make art that is uncompromising and on their own terms and 7 (or 8) is a refreshing reminder that rock music in 2015 can still be a unique and cathartic experience.

06/04 – Seattle, WA @ Chop Suey
06/05 – Portland, OR @ The Know
06/06 – San Francisco, CA @ Hemlock Tavern
07/24-26 – Seattle, WA @ Capitol Hill Block Party
