Elliott Smith - Unreleased alternate take of "Alameda" debuts on Pitchfork.

August 03, 2012

Listen: Alternate Take on Elliott Smith's Alameda
Read the article by Jenn Pelly at Pitchfork.

August 6 would have been Elliott Smith's 43rd birthday, and to mark the occassion, his former label Kill Rock Stars is sharing a series of rare, unreleased tracks. It starts with a version of "Alameda", recorded during the same sessions that yielded the album version featured on Smith's essential 1997 release Either/Or. This version contains alternate lyrics during the chorus. Kill Rock Stars will also reissue Either/Or and Smith's self-titled 1995 album on 180-gram vinyl this month, in honor of Smith's birthday.

On August 6, Kill Rock Stars will sell its 2010 Smith compilation An Introduction to... for $4.99 all day. You'll also receive "a present" from the label if you sign up for their mailing list that day.

Throughout August, Smith's entire Kill Rock Stars output will be available digitally for $49. And for the duration of 2012, any Kill Rock Stars mailorder purchase will be accompanied by a 10% off coupon for their Smith offerings.

Alameda (alternate version) by Elliott Smith

The track “Neskowin” from the Corin Tucker Band’s highly anticipated sophomore effort Kill My Blues is premiering at Stereogum along with brand new west coast tour dates.
The follow-up to the group’s critically acclaimed 2010 release 1,000 Years—an album hailed as “thoughtful [and] subtle” by Pitchfork and “a determined effort” by the Los Angeles Times— Kill My Blues finds former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Tucker returning to her riot grrrl sonic roots along with band members Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears), Sara Lund (Unwound) and Mike Clark (Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks).
Of writing and recording the new album, Tucker notes that Kill My Blues was a group effort. “After the past two years playing together, traveling and making music, I think we’re more comfortable,” she says. “We collaborated on every song on this record and no one was shy about their ideas. I think you can hear that sense of joy and abandon in the songs.”
Best-known for her role in punk rock mainstay Sleater-Kinney, Tucker also played in the influential early-`90s rock group Heavens to Betsy. Recently she has appeared alongside Sleater-Kinney bandmate Carrie Brownstein in the IFC comedy Portlandia. Corin lives with her two children and filmmaker husband Lance Bangs in Portland.
Kill My Blues is available for pre-order at the KRS store. Pre-orders will ship the week of September 18.

Casting call for the new Corin Tucker Band video + "Groundhog Day" on Bandcamp

July 23, 2012

"Alicia J. Rose & Co. are making a fun new music video for the awesome Corin Tucker Band (ex Sleater-Kinney) and we are looking to partially fill a music venue with early 80's punk/new wave concert goers. Corin and her band will be playing Polystyrene and the X-Ray Spex. It's going to be a blast. Does this sound like a punk fantasy come true? Its gonna be. You would need to be available Sunday 7/29 from 11am-5pm and be willing to go punk or new wave for the day. Unpaid, but HIGH GLORY. You will help teen girls crowd surf and Corin feel like its 1980ish at CBGB. If you are interested and available - and 21+ - please RSVP here AND send an email with headshot and contact info to - this is gonna be a fun one!"

In other Corin Tucker Band news we added "Groundhog Day" to bandcamp for all you FLAC and .wav file fans out there. Enjoy!
