<Bangs><Maggie+Sarah><read 1999 Q & A here>

3.5.00 Gwen asks: Dear Bangs, will you ever do a cover? I've had several in mind... "Mother's Little Helper" - Rolling Stones, "Youth Gone Wild" - Skid Row, "You Give Love a Bad Name" - Bon Jovi, plus several from Motley Crue's body of work & the list goes on...

Maggie: Love Is a Battlefield is one I've been pushing for- if only we could get Jessica Espeleta to do the dance moves on stage...

3.5.00 Leo asks: Dear Maggie, I asked Sarah a question last time, so now it's your turn. I seem to remember you giving props to a certain English drummer by the name of Keith. So, my question to you is, have you read that book 'Dear Boy' that came out recently? I just read it on my holiday to the States. It's pretty good. It's kind of odd how he used to think that he had an evil Indian family living in his head, though - but I suppose they didn't call him Moon the Loon for nothing. I also thought that it was funny that everyone loved him no matter how annoying he was - even his arch-rival Roger 'Napoleon' Daltrey. Well, I thought it was a right riveting read (clever wording, I know. Cheers). You can borrow my copy if you want - although I do live several million miles away. Tell Sarah she can borrow my copy of 'Anastacia ask your Anylyst' as well. I loved those books too! Keep bangin'.

Maggie: Otto?

3.5.00 jenny asks: Dear Bangs, I just wanted to say "thank you thank you thank you" for going on tour with sleater-kinney....im stuck out here in wisconsin and i thought i would never be able to see you guys live...no one EVER comes here...but thanks for giving us that chance to see you....see you soon!!! (p.s. if you have a say in it---pick milwaukee over madison)

Sarah: hey thanks for the nice words. i don't really think i have much say in the matter but i'd like to go to milwaukee as i have never been there before! i like madison too, but last time we were there a man was talking to maggie with no pants on. and no underwear. just a shirt. it was slightly disturbing.

3.5.00 lauren asks: Dear maggie and sarah, i read that you went to high school together but were just aquantances. so how did you finally decide to start a band together? Did you guys enjoy high school or hate it? And maggie send me clothes you have the greatest style!!!!!!! hehe thanks guys, yr the greatest band out there, me and my friend jam to yr music every weekend!!

Sarah: we met after high school just through going to shows, etc-- olympia is a very small town. i wanted to start a new band and my friend jessica suggested maggie as a bass player, i asked her and she said yes. high school was neither horrible or wonderful for me, just sort of like a chore.

Maggie: I honestly can't remember if I liked high school or not. I don't think so- I don't like getting up so early and hanging out with idiots. So it seems like I wouldn't have really been into it. We started playing together when Sarah was bored one winter and she was in between bands and she knew I was too so she called me up. Wow, I always think I have terrible style and now you are the second person to comment on it today! My sources for clothes=goodwill and my mom.

2.1.00 ted asks: Dear sarah, skyline kicks ass! do you like your 4-ways with onions or kidney beans? i love the beans! i don't live in cincinnati anymore and get it off the web site. where did you have it at? my favorite one is in cincinnati near the esquire movies...have you been to that one?

Sarah: last time i had skyline was actually at home in olympia, my friend brought back a can from her trip from the midwest. i like mine with spaghetti noodles, chili, onions, cheese and oyster crackers. there is nothing like it out here, and i have to admit the first time i layed eyes on it in cinci i was terrified. but, i finally succumbed to the ways of the chili and i love it. i need to check out the website. i'm not sure where the skyline i ate at was, sort of in a college-type neighborhood? we need to get them to expand to the west coast!

2.1.00 Stormy asks: dear Maggie and Sarah, which one of you is the Mary and which one is the Rhoda? Also, would you rather have coffee with the Cream of Wheat man or Aunt Jemima? I'm more of a Jemima woman myself.

Sarah: is this a reference to the mary tyler moore show? i've never seen it so i can't say. i don't drink coffee but i would have a glass of strawberry quick with aunt jemima.

Maggie: I don't drink coffee but I think I'm more like Mary even though I'd prefer to be Rhoda. I think maybe we are both more like Mary and Kyle is Murray.

2.1.00 Ol' Dirty asks: Dear Bangs, Who is the silliest Bang? Love me

Sarah: i think that kyle is the silliest. actually we're all pretty retarded. but he wears a headband.

Maggie: Kyle!

2.1.00 tasha asks: i've never seen pictures of the band before... just wondering if you wear yerr hair short or long...

Sarah: we wear our hair medium. sorta shoulder length, although kyle just has one long dreadlock that goes down to his ankles. just kidding. he is a neat and tidy boy with no dreadlocks. just a headband.

2.1.00 chi-chi bong asks: maggie and sarah, if you were to go to prom again and you were to take a girl. would you wear the tux or the dress? and why?

Sarah: i would definitely be wearing the dress. i like to dress up girly and fancy if i have the excuse to. i did go through a phase though of wearing ties, but that was me trying to go for more of a angus young look than a manly-man look.

2.1.00 chrystal asks: Bangs ,I havnt heard any of your music yet so I ask you to please tell me what your sound is like!
Sarah: the go-go's meet black sabbath i think...
1.16.00 binkit asks: this is probably a pretty dumb question, but i have the bangs cd and i'm not sure who's who in the pictures. who's wearing the tie and who's in the dress? and um. sarah, you like skyline chili! right on! i'm a transplanted ohioan living in portland now, so i really miss that stuff, although you can order it online from their website. they really need to open one somewhere in the pacific northwest...

Maggie: I don't think anyone's wearing a dress. Sarah is wearing the skirt and the tie.

Sarah: the pictures are: t-shirt-maggie, tie-me, dress- maybe jesse? as for skyline chili, yah i love that stuff. 3-ways, 4-ways, cheese coneys...

1.16.00 theo asks: Dear baNgs sarah, where did my cowboy hat go? just wondering.....?

Sarah: oh shit! that was such a rad cowboy hat-- i thought that you would probably want it back after we were done so i threw it in your direction into the crowd, then you or someone else threw it back to me, then i was backstage and someone wanted to wear it and that's the last i saw of it... sorry.

1.13.00 cindy asks: Dear sarah, i think that you guys are f'ing great. i live in ohio and i hate it...fucking corn fields aahh! anyways, i heard that the guy that put on all the rad shows in cincinnati left town...does that mean that you won't play here again. it has been forever and me an my friends are dying to see you! also what about the new record? is it done yet?
Sarah: ha, that's funny you should ask. our cincinnati show connection did indeed move out here but hated it and now he is back there. so, yah i think we will play there on our next tour in may or june. i love cinci, i love skyline chili and racoon skeletons and riding the bus around. we are recording the new record in a few weeks and it will be out may 16th i believe.
1.13.00 Jack asks: Dear Bangs, On a fancy scale of 1-10 (1 being less fancy, 10 being more fancy), who is fancier. Gary Glitter? Or Rod Stewart? PS: Y'all rock. Thank you for coming to Madison, WI back in the day...

Sarah: that's a tough one. gary glitter is pretty fancy, i give him a 8 1/2, but rod just has something. maybe its the hair, maybe its the neon tank tops, i don't know but i give him a 9 on the fancy scale. i really like madison cuz it reminds me in a lot of ways of olympia, hopefully we will play there on our next tour.

Maggie: Prison makes you a lot less fancy. I know I used to live on a prison island. I would have to vote for Rod-as again, I am the president of the Olympia Chapter of Rod's fan club

1.11.00 amanduh asks: Dear sarah, i love bangs. i think you guys rock, and i try to get all my glam rock friends to listen to you. i have a few questions: what kind of visual art do you make? what was the craziest thing that has ever happened to you guys on tour? what's yr favorite food? come play in chicago soon!
Sarah: wow, do you know real glam rockers? here we only have fake new style ones.. maggie used to be some what of a glam rocker in highschool, into cinderella, motley crue and whatnot. my favorite food is delicious strawberry quik, although that is a beverage... as for tour stories, its all a blur. maggie has a much better memory than me. the art that i do involves a lot of collage stuff, i collect printed materials from thrift stores, packages, magazines, and the garbage and make it look pretty... also i like to use plastic a lot and am getting into using auto glass that shatters but dosen't break into sharp pieces. and oil pastels, i like to do those as well. we will come to chicago in may! see you at the show...
1.11.00 Gwen asks: Dear Bangs, will you ever do a cover? I've had several in mind... "Mother's Little Helper" - Rolling Stones, "Youth Gone Wild" - Skid Row, "You Give Love a Bad Name" - Bon Jovi, plus several from Motley Crue's body of work & the list goes on...
Sarah: those are some great ideas... yah, we've started to do a few covers and then we always forget to finish them or get distracted doing something else. songs we were supposed to do include: "he's a whore" and "southern girls" by cheap trick, "photograph" by def leppard and some warrant song i think? "heaven isn't too far away" i think its called. but two songs i would also love to do are j.geils band "centerfold" and blondie "hanging on the telephone". once we did "teenage kicks" by the undertones, i think that was our first show? i can't remember.
1.11.00 rocky asks: Dear maggie and sarah, did you guys go to high school together? if so, did you know each other? were you friends, aquaintances, enemies? how many people live in olympia?

Sarah: yah, we went to the same high school and had a lot of mutual friends but never crossed paths. maggie was a grade ahead of me. olympia has a population of maybe 50,000? i could be wrong about that.

Maggie: We did in fact go to the same high school as well as middle school. We had mutual friends but we were just acquaintances.
