Q: How do I get ahold of the right person to book a show for one of your bands?

A: There is no simple answer for this. Some of the bands have booking agents, one or two of them have managers who help them with their business issues, and many of them book their own tours and shows. If you are unsure how to get ahold of the band, please send us an email at krs@killrockstars.com and we will forward it to the right person. If you book a venue and you want all of our bands to know about this, we can forward it to all our bands, so please email us, especially if its new and/or all ages.

Q: I am a record store or other retailer outside of the US and I would like to carry KRS CDs and records. Who do I contact?

A: Here is a link to a page that details many of the companies that carry our stuff in other countries: International Distributors

Q: Don't know if this is a FAQ, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. What band plays the last (hidden) track on the KILL ROCK STARS compilation CD? It's a guy singing lead and a girl doing back-up repeating "don't look at me" over and over. What is it?

A: i know this doesn't help. but that is an anonymous track by someone who doesn't want to be identified.

Q: are you hiring? is there any chance of working at yr company?

A: We get this question a lot. Occasionally we do have a vacancy, so feel free to send in your resume. Portia keeps a file of them. In the future if we get vacancies we will post them to the krs-newsletter list, and in CMJ and other trade magazines, as we have done in the past. It also looks like we might be using unpaid interns more in the future, but we only want to do this if you are getting college credit for it. It doesn't feel right to have people work here who aren't getting anything from it except the experience of being here. If you have a situation where you can get college credit for interning here, feel free to approach us about it, but it'll depend on what time of year it is, how much we have going on, etc.

Q: what is your demo tape policy?

A: As of October 16, 2006 we are no longer accepting unsolicited demos.

Q: what's the deal with the download codes that come in your records? what quality are the mp3s? where do i go to download them?

A: To download the free mp3's that came with your record, go to www.killrockstars.com/download and enter the code that appears on your download card. the code is good for one use only. The album will be saved to your computer as a .zip file with the catalog number at the begining (for example, if you download The Thermals' "Now We Can See" album it will save as "krs504.zip") Oh yeah, our downloads are 320k mp3s.

Q: Can I use your songs on my podcast?

A: Sure, you are free to use any of the mp3s that we offer on our Sounds page.

Q: Other than sending a demo tape, what are some other ways to get signed to KRS or another independent label?

A: There is no one single answer to this question. Sometimes we ask a band we have seen live and enjoyed, sometimes we hear about a band from other bands on the label or from our friends, sometimes a band approaches us that we have met in our travels, and sometimes a new band forms from bands that have broken up. We strongly encourage any band that can, to play as many shows as you possibly can, tour constantly, and release your own music, those are the best ways to get people to pay attention to your band.

Q: What is your privacy policy?

A: Kill Rock Stars will not rent or sell or give your name, address, email address, credit card information or personal information to any third party. The only third party who will contact you will be buyolympia.com, to track or confirm your order if you buy something from our online catalog. Buyolympia.com's privacy policy is available at: http://www.buyolympia.com/killrockstars/PrivacyAndSecurity

Q: Will you trade links with me?

A: The web person thinks links pages that are just big long lists are boring, and we prefer to link to pages we really like. We love checking out new cool websites, so please send your links, especially if they pertain to bands on KRS. But we don't do the automatic link trade thing.

Q: I want to use a ______ (KRS band) song in my movie. Is this ok? How do I do this?

A: We have an employee that we work with who negotiates movie and tv uses. But if your movie is something you made yourself on a very small budget, then it varies widely from band to band. Some don't care, some might. In either case, your best bet is to send as much info about the movie as you possibly can to lauren@killrockstars.com and she will forward it to the band.

Q: I am a record store in the US or distribution company anywhere and I want to carry KRS CDs and records. Who do I contact?

A: We don't handle KRS distribution from the KRS office. If you want to get our stuff to distribute, you'll have to contact OUR distributor, Redeye Distribution. You can reach them at info@redeyeusa.com, or fax 336-578-7388. Their address is 449-A Trollingwood Road, Haw River, NC 27258. They are really nice!

Q: When's My Favorite Band gonna play in Florida?

A: The best way to get up-to-date for-sure tour information on KRS bands is to look at the tour dates page. We update this is as soon as we have tour information. We aren't keeping any secrets! Also if your access to the internet is limited you can send us a SASE and we'll send you tour dates.

Q: Will you send me promos for my radio show/zine/etc.?

A: Please send requests for promotional material to radio@killrockstars.com if you are from a radio station, or to press@killrockstars.com if you are from a zine.

Q: Did Bikini Kill really break up? Did the PeeChees really break up? Did Mocket really break up? Is Bratmobile really getting back together? Did Unwound really break up?

A: Yes.

Q: How do I subscribe to your mailing list?

A: We have a one-way announcement list, which is generally emailed each friday. You can subscribe here or send email to krs-news-request@killrockstars.com for subscription information. If you order anything from us through mailorder you are automatically added to our paper catalog mailing list. If you have not ordered or it has been a while, send us an email or a postcard and we'll send you a catalog.

Q: What if I have a question that's not answered here?

A: If you have an idea for a FAQ please email webmaster@killrockstars.com, otherwise email the appropriate department (press, radio, retail, mailorder). For general questions you can email krs@killrockstars.com. Also, if you just want to ask a fun question, visit the askaband area and go to the krs staff part.

Q: I would like to be an intern at Kill Rock Stars. What are your guidelines for interns and who should I talk to?

A: We like to have interns, but we do have a few guidelines. We insist that our interns get school or some other form of credit for their internships, we're not looking for free labor if the intern is getting nothing out of it except the pleasure of our company. We are currently only looking for interns for our Portland, OR office. If you are in or around Portland and would like to intern please get in touch with Maggie Vail at maggie@killrockstars.com.
